Fanese-Style Doughnuts (Bombolini alla Fanese)

A sweet treat from the Fano area, these doughnuts are soft and fragrant, ideal for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

- 500 g flour
- 100 g sugar
- 2 eggs
- 25 g brewer’s yeast
- 50 g butter
- Grated lemon zest
- Milk
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar

Preparation

Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm milk. Mix all ingredients to obtain a soft dough. Let it rise for 2 hours. Roll out the dough, cut into discs, and let rise again. Fry in hot oil until golden. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
